I'M Back!!

It has been almost 6 months since I last posted. Got real busy and have been dealing with some health problems and sort of lost touch with the whole computer thing.

Now that hunting season is here I look forward to sharing stories and pictures.

So So Fishing

Went out as planned this morning to Montour Run. The Ohio was a little too fast for walleyes.
Caught a nice 14" rainbow, and lost a larger one. Let some slack in the line when trying to net him, and he jumped. It started to rain so I called it quits. At least I have an excuse not to cut the grass again.

Penguins Down 1-0

Just a little break from the outdoors to take some time to mention The Penguins.
The Penguins lost 3-2 yesterday to The Washington Capitols. Allot of fans are probably worried after a loss. To me I see allot of hope.

The Penguins had more shots, won more face offs, forced more breakaways, threw hits at every opportunity, yet still lost the game. They were beaten by spectacular saves, and poor finishing. I saw allot of promise in the way that they forced the rookie sensation Vrarlamov, who played superbly. After almost being beaten several times, he failed to challenge the attack, and stayed in the net. The Penguins will take advantage of that in game two, and come to Pittsburgh 1-1.

They did very well in keeping Ovechkin to just one goal who for the most part was not a factor in the game. Poor power play and costly penalties is what lost the game. If they can come out shooting and play with same intensity on Monday, I smell a victory.

Good Morning. Just got in from the part time job. Would love to be in the stream right now, but the bait shop doesn't open until 7:00am or so. I am going to put in a couple hours for some Walleye in the Ohio River this morning, and then hit Montour Run, for some trout. I hope the rain holds off at least until noon.

The annual fishing trip with friends is fast approaching, just under two weeks away, and I need to keep filling the freezer for the fish fry. For the past 5 years 8 or 9 of us have rented a place on Conneaut Lake for three days, and fish around the area. Pymatuming, Shenango, French Creek, Tamarack, Woodcock. We have a great time!!

Will the Weather Hold?

I am looking forward to some trout fishing this weekend. I was hoping to wade Montour Run and Pine Creek near North Park. I am not concerned about being in the rain, but too much of it can make them unfishable.

May 1, 2009 Fishing Report

• Anglers have been doing very well on trout at Upper and Lower Twin Lakes, said Martha Martino of Jimmy's Sporting Goods in South Greensburg. Numerous limits have been caught on wax worms and garlic and salmon egg peach Powerbait. Angler John Swartz caught a 23-inch, 6-pound, 8-ounce rainbow trout from the upper lake on peach Powerbait.

• Mammoth Dam has been giving up rainbow trout to those fishing with red mealworms, wax worms and Powerbait. Anglers have also picked up a few bullhead catfish and largemouth bass.

• Yellow Creek Lake has produced yellow perch for those fishing nightcrawlers and maggots, and crappies for those using minnows and jigs. Northern pike have also been hitting.

• Fishermen targeting Slippery Rock Creek have been doing well on trout, with a number of palominos caught, said Jerry O'Donnell of O'Donnell's Sports Supplies in Prospect. Maggots, minnows and mealworms have been the hot baits.

• At Keystone Lake in Armstrong County, anglers have been getting a few muskies on shiners and large lures. Crappies have been hitting, too.

• Laurel Hill Creek has been giving up trout to those using butterworms and chartreuse Powerbait, said John Dressler of Red's Bait Shop in Acme.

• Donegal Lake has been hit and miss for trout, with some days giving up limits and others fewer trout.

• Crappies continue to be caught in good numbers at Loyalhanna Lake, but the majority of fish seem on the small side, according to Fish and Boat Commisison reports.

• Lower Hereford Manor Lake has been giving up trout, including a 231/3-inch palomino caught by a 3-year-old using a Spider-Man rod. Anglers fishing the lake after dark have also been getting some bullhead catfish.

• The walleye fishing at Pymatuning Lake has really started to pick up, with fish being caught on the south side of the causeway in the shallows off Westford and Stockers Island, according to a Fish and Boat Commission report. The area around Hemlock Island has been good, too. The bass fishing has been terrific as well, with some tournaments weighing in 20-pound limits.

• At Lake Arthur, largemouth bass have been hitting, as have crappies for those fishing deeper water with jigs and minnows.

• Anglers fishing the Allegheny River have been getting lots of walleyes and saugers, and a few white bass, on jigs and minnows, said Matt DeMichele of Allegheny Bait and Tackle in Tarentum.

• Bull Creek and Deer Creek, meanwhile, have been producing trout for those using wax worms, salmon eggs and nightcrawlers.

• Cranberry Glade Lake has reportedly been giving up some small northern pike, along with crappies and bass.

• Trout anglers have been doing well on Whiteley Creek using wax worms, mealworms and Powerbait, said John Ozohonish of Ozie's Sport Shop in Rices Landing.

• Loyalhanna Creek has been giving up loads of trout, according to Rich Kacsuta of Loyalhanna Fishing Post in Ligonier. Wax worms and butterworms have been the best for bait fishermen, while those fishing the delayed harvest section have had success with San Juan worms, scuds and caddis flies.

• Yough Dam has been high this week, and the fishing has been resultingly slow, with some bass caught, but few walleyes.

• At Presque Isle Bay, large crappies are being caught, usually on small fatheads and tube jigs, though the overall catch has been down. Northern pike have been hitting around the Marina Lake channel, while perch were being caught on emerald shiners fished on the bottom along the North and South piers.

• Anglers have been getting walleyes and saugers at the New brighton Dam on the Beaver River and at Montgomery Dam on the Ohio River, said Bob Bernhardy of Shooter's Place in Bridgewater. Shiners, fathead minnows and nightcrawlers have been the best baits.
